- a canopy where the temperature and humidity correspond to the parameters of the environment, there is constant air movement and there is no direct exposure to solar radiation and precipitation;
- heated premises, individual garage with a temperature of not less than plus 5°C and relative humidity of 50-70%, equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation.
If a heated room or individual garage has ineffective supply and exhaust ventilation, and the car is used in winter or is stored after washing without preliminary drying, then the destructive effect of corrosion increases many times over.
When storing your car for a long time in winter under a canopy or in an unheated room, remove the battery and audio equipment and store them separately; drain the fluid from the windshield washer reservoirs.
When preparing a vehicle for long-term storage:
- Wash the car and wipe the body dry. Remove corrosion. Paint the surface with damaged paint. Apply a preservative to the body.
- Start and warm up the engine. Stop the engine, remove the spark plugs and pour 25-30 g of warmed motor oil into each cylinder, then turn the crankshaft 10-15 revolutions and screw in the spark plugs.
- Seal the outlet of the main muffler pipe with paper or cloth oiled tape.
- To protect against dust, cover the engine with a tarpaulin or film. Place the car on stands so that the wheels are raised above the supporting surface.
- Fully charge the battery and store it in a cool, dry place.
Car maintenance during storage (once every two months) is as follows:
- Inspect the car. Clean and paint over any corroded areas on the painted surface.
- Remove the spark plugs, turn the crankshaft 2-3 turns and screw in the spark plugs.
- Turn the steering wheel 1-1.5 turns in each direction. Operate the brake and clutch pedals, accelerator pedal and parking brake three to five times.
- When storing the car for a long time, over 1 month, it is necessary to monitor the battery. Check the density and, if necessary, recharge the battery.
