Disassembling the front axle (Chevrolet Niva 1)

Install and secure the front axle on the repair stand. Unscrew plug 5 and drain the oil from the crankcase, then perform the following operations on both ends of the front axle:

• unscrew the nuts securing the cover 12 of the bearing 7 of the inner hinge housing and remove the hinge, being careful not to damage the sealing gasket;
• having removed the retaining ring 11 and spring washer 10, press the bearing 7 from the housing 9 of the inner joint and remove the oil seal 8.

Remove the stamped bridge housing cover and sealing gasket. It is not recommended to remove the lower cover 2.

Disassemble the front axle gearbox using the techniques described in the subsection "Rear axle".
