2. Press the clutch pedal, insert the key into the ignition switch and turn on the starter. If the engine does not start on the first try, turn off the ignition and turn on the starter again after 40 seconds. It is not recommended to turn on the starter for more than 10 seconds.
Attention
- Starting the engine with a low level of working fluid in the power steering reservoir is strictly prohibited.
- Do not press the accelerator pedal while starting the engine.
If the engine fails to start on the first two attempts, press the accelerator pedal all the way down and turn on the starter for 10 seconds to purge the cylinders, then release the accelerator pedal and start the engine in the prescribed manner.
After starting the engine, release the ignition key, which will automatically return to position I, see Figure 22. If the engine is running steadily after starting, smoothly release the clutch pedal.
Starting the engine in cold weather
These recommendations ensure starting a fully functional cold engine at ambient temperatures down to minus 25°C, with the battery charged to at least 75%.
1. The viscosity grade of the motor oil according to SAE must correspond to the ambient temperature, see Appendix 1.
2. Gasoline evaporation class – for the winter period of the year depending on the climatic region of application in accordance with GOST R 51105-97.
3. Before starting, turn on the ignition and pause for a few seconds to allow the electric fuel pump to raise the pressure in the fuel rail to the operating value.
4. Before starting and during starting, press the clutch pedal all the way down, but do not press the accelerator pedal.
5. If the engine does not start within 10 seconds of the starter running, try to start it again after at least 40 seconds.
6. If the second start attempt was unsuccessful, the third should be started with the accelerator pedal fully depressed. After 6-8 seconds of purging, begin to smoothly release the accelerator pedal, holding it in the position at which the engine will start.
7. If after the third attempt the engine does not start, you should contact the official dealer of ZAO GM - AvtoVAZ for a detailed clarification of the reason for the unsuccessful start.
Warning. Exhaust gases are poisonous! Therefore, the room in which the engine is started and warmed up must be well ventilated.
Caution: After starting, let the engine idle for at least two minutes. Do not turn or rock the steering wheel while warming up.
