Starting a gasoline engine (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

            0

If you have a diesel engine, see "Starting a Diesel Engine" in the Diesel Engine appendix.

Move the gearshift lever to the PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N) position. The engine will not start in any other position - this is a safety feature. To restart the engine when you are already moving, use only the NEUTRAL (N) position.

Note: Do not attempt to move the gearshift lever to the PARK (P) position while your vehicle is moving. Doing so may damage the clutch. Only move the gearshift lever to the PARK (P) position while your vehicle is stationary.

1. Without pressing the gas pedal, turn the ignition key to the START (E) position. When the engine starts, release the key. The idle speed will decrease as the engine warms up.

Note: Holding the key in the START (E) position for more than 15 seconds at a time will drain the battery significantly faster. And excessive heat can damage the starter.

2. If the engine does not start immediately, hold the key in the START (E) position. If it does not start within 10 seconds, press the accelerator pedal all the way down for 5 seconds or until it starts.

3. If the engine still does not start (or started and turned off), wait 15 seconds and try starting again.

Once the engine starts, release the ignition key and the gas pedal.
