Starting the engine with the ignition key

Turn the key to the ACC position, turn the steering wheel slightly to release the steering wheel lock.

Manual transmission: depress the clutch.

Automatic transmission: Move the selector lever to position P or N.

Do not press the accelerator pedal.

Diesel engine: To preheat, turn the key to the ON position, wait until the W indicator goes out.

Turn the key to the START position while depressing the clutch and brake pedals; release the pedals after the engine starts.

Before restarting or to turn off the engine, return the key to the LOCK position.

Caution: Do not operate the starter continuously for more than 10 seconds. If the engine does not start, wait 10 seconds before trying again. This will prevent damage to the starter.

Starting the engine with the ignition control handle

Manual transmission: depress the clutch. Turn the ignition control knob to the START position while depressing the clutch and brake pedals; release it after the engine starts.

Automatic transmission: Move the gearshift lever to position P (Park) or N (neutral). The engine will not start in any other position. To restart the engine on a moving vehicle, only position N should be selected (neutral). If your vehicle is equipped with a keyless entry system, you must hold down the brake pedal to start the engine.

Diesel engine: Turn the ignition control knob to the ON position to activate the preheating until the W indicator goes out.

Turn the ignition control knob to the START position.

When the engine begins to crank, release the ignition control knob and it will return to the ON position.

If the ignition control knob does not turn, try pressing the knob and turning it again.

If the remote control is not in the vehicle or something is interfering with the remote control, the driver information display (DIC) in the center of the instrument cluster will display the message ELECTRONIC KEY NOT DETECTED (ELECTRONIC KEY NOT DETECTED).
