Automatic engine stop and start system



The automatic engine stop/start system helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The engine switches off automatically when the car is moving at low speed or is stationary.

The engine will start automatically when you press the clutch pedal.

Turning on



The engine stop-start system is activated immediately after the ignition is turned on.

Disconnection



Disconnection


To force the automatic engine stop/start system to be switched off, press the ECO button.

When the system is turned off, the key backlight LED turns off.

Automatic engine stop



If the vehicle is moving at low speed or stationary, the following steps must be taken to activate the automatic engine stop function:
  • Move the gearshift lever to position N
  • Release the clutch pedal

The engine will be turned off, but the ignition will remain on.

After the engine stops, the tachometer needle will move to the AUTOSTOP position.

In the automatic engine stop mode, the heating system, power steering and brake power continue to operate.

Depending on the required power, the air conditioning system may or may not block the engine stop-start system.

Conditions for automatic engine stop


  • The automatic engine stop and start system is not disabled forcibly
  • The hood is completely closed
  • The driver's door is closed or the driver's seat belt is fastened
  • The battery is sufficiently charged and in good condition
  • The engine is warmed up
  • Engine coolant temperature is not too low
  • The outside temperature is neither too low nor too high
  • Frost removal function is not enabled
  • The air supply control handle for manual climate control is not set to position 4 (maximum air flow)
  • The air conditioner button is not pressed during automatic climate control
  • There is sufficient vacuum in the brake booster chamber
  • The vehicle was in motion after a previous automatic engine shutdown

Driver starting the engine



To start the engine again, depress the clutch pedal.


After the engine starts, the tachometer needle will move to the idle speed zone.

If the driver moves the gearshift lever from position N before depressing the clutch, the indicator will come on #.

The indicator goes out after pressing the clutch pedal.

Automatic engine start in Autostop mode



If one of the following conditions is met in the engine stop mode, the automatic engine stop/start system will automatically start the engine.
  • The automatic engine stop and start system is forcibly disabled
  • The hood is open
  • The driver's seat belt is unfastened and the driver's door is open
  • Engine temperature is too low
  • The battery is discharged
  • There is not enough vacuum in the brake booster chamber
  • The car started moving
  • The outside temperature is too low or too high
  • Frost removal function is enabled
  • The air supply control handle for manual microclimate control is set to position 4 (maximum air flow)
  • The air conditioner button is pressed during automatic climate control
