If your 4WD vehicle is equipped with an electronic transfer case, the transfer case switches are located below and to the left of the air conditioning controls.

If your 4WD vehicle is equipped with an electronic transfer case, the transfer case switches are…

Use these switches to engage and disengage the all-wheel drive. You can choose three driving positions.

2-wheel drive on rear wheels 2HI: This position is for driving on most streets and highways. The front axle is not connected in this drive.

4-wheel drive 4HI: This position connects the front axle. Use 4HI when extra traction is needed on snowy or icy roads or in most off-road situations.

4-wheel drive low speed 4LO: This position also connects the front axle. You may never need 4LO. This position sends maximum power to all four wheels. You might choose 4LO for off-road driving in sand, mud or deep snow or when climbing and descending steep slopes.

The indicator lights show you what position the transfer case is in. The indicator lights come on immediately after turning the ignition key and show the last selected position. If the lights do not come on, you should contact a service station. The indicator lights flash during the shift. They remain on when the shift is complete.

If for some reason the transfer case cannot reach the required position, the transfer case will return to the previously selected position.

Switching from 2HI to 4HI

Press and release the 4HI button. This can be done at any speed and the indicator light will flash while shifting. It will remain on continuously when the shift is complete.

Switching from 4HI to 2HI

Press and release the 2HI button. This can be done at any speed and the system will turn off automatically.

Switching from 2HI or 4HI to 4LO

To shift from 2HI or 4HI to 4LO, the vehicle must be stopped or moving at less than 3 mph (4.8 km/h) with the transmission in neutral (N). The preferred method for shifting into 4LO is driving at 1-2 mph (1.6-3.2 km/h). Press and release the 4LO button. You must wait until the indicator light stops flashing and remains on continuously before moving the gear lever.

If the 4LO button is pressed while your vehicle is in gear and moving, the 4LO indicator light will flash for 30 seconds and the shift will not occur until your vehicle is moving slower than 3 mph (4.8 km/h) and the gearbox will not be in neutral (N).

Switching from 4LO to 4HI or 2HI

To shift from 4LO to 4HI or 2HI, the vehicle must be stopped or moving at less than 3 mph (4.8 km/h) with the gearbox in neutral (N). It is better if the car moves at a speed of 1-2 mph (1.6-3.2 km/h). Press and release the 4HI button. You must wait until the indicator lamp stops flashing and remains on continuously before moving the gearshift lever.

If the 4HI button is pressed when your vehicle is at speed or moving, the indicator lamp will flash for 30 seconds and the shift will not occur until the vehicle is moving slower than 3 mph (4.8 km/h) and the gearbox will not be in neutral (N).
