Speed control lever on the steering column
1. Press the brake pedal down with your right foot and set the parking brake (with the left foot).
2. Move the speed control lever to the PARK (P) position as follows:

1. If you have four-wheel drive, make sure the transfer case is not in the NEUTRAL (N) position.
2. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK (B) position.
3. Remove the key and take it with you. If you were able to leave the car with the key in your hands, your car is left in the PARK (P) position.
Gearbox Lever Locks
If you park on a hill and do not move the transmission into PARK correctly, the weight of the car may put too much pressure on the parking pawls in the transmission. And it may be difficult to move the transmission lever out of PARK (P). This is the transmission lever lock.
To prevent this, first set the parking brake, then correctly place the gearshift lever in PARK (P) as described above before leaving the driver's seat.
When you are ready to drive, first move the gearshift lever out of the PARK (P) position, then release the parking brake.
If the lock does work, you will need another vehicle to give your car a slight push up so you can release the gearshift lever.
