Removal the gear shift control mechanism (Chevrolet Lacetti J200)

We remove the gear shift control mechanism as a whole to replace the control rod or its guide bushing, the control mechanism housing, and the mechanism linkage bearings.

We set the gear shift lever to neutral position.

In the engine compartment, unscrew the bolt of the terminal connection of the gearbox control rod with the input shaft of the drive (see Adjusting the gearbox control drive).

We take out the bolt (for clarity, we show the operation with the control rod removed)…

We use side cutters to cut through the plastic clamp that secures the gearshift lever boot…

We remove two holders of the airbag control unit wiring harness from the holes in the control mechanism housing.

Using a 10 mm socket with an extension, unscrew the two front mounting bolts and two rear mounting nuts of the gear shift control housing.

We remove the bracket for fastening the front part of the floor tunnel trim from the floor studs.

Gearshift control assembly The gearshift lever can be replaced without removing the control housing, by removing only the rear and front sections of the floor tunnel trim.

If necessary, remove the bearing supports of the gear shift linkage from the housing holes and remove the gear shift linkage with bearings.

Having replaced the failed parts, we assemble and install the gear shift control mechanism in the reverse order.

After installation, adjust the gearbox control drive (see Adjusting the gearbox control drive).
