We set the gear shift lever to neutral position.
In the engine compartment, unscrew the bolt of the terminal connection of the gearbox control rod with the input shaft of the drive (see Adjusting the gearbox control drive).

We take out the bolt (for clarity, we show the operation with the control rod removed)…

…and remove the clamp of the terminal connection from the rod.
We move the boot forward along the rod..

…and we remove the dust boot centering sleeve from the hole in the front shield.

In the car interior, remove the rear and front parts of the floor tunnel trim (see Removal the rear section of the floor tunnel trim and Removal the front section of the floor tunnel lining).

We use side cutters to cut through the plastic clamp that secures the gearshift lever boot…

…and remove the cover with the frame from the lever rod.

We remove two holders of the airbag control unit wiring harness from the holes in the control mechanism housing.

Using a 10 mm socket with an extension, unscrew the two front mounting bolts and two rear mounting nuts of the gear shift control housing.

We remove the bracket for fastening the front part of the floor tunnel trim from the floor studs.

We lift the control mechanism housing by the lever and move it back, removing the rod from the hole in the front shield.

Gearshift control assembly The gearshift lever can be replaced without removing the control housing, by removing only the rear and front sections of the floor tunnel trim.
For clarity, we show the removal of the lever on the dismantled control mechanism housing.

Having moved the spring retainer of the lever axis away from the lever rod, we remove the axis from the holes in the lever and the linkage.

We remove the lever from the holes of the rod and the linkage.
If necessary, remove the bearing supports of the gear shift linkage from the housing holes and remove the gear shift linkage with bearings.
Having replaced the failed parts, we assemble and install the gear shift control mechanism in the reverse order.
After installation, adjust the gearbox control drive (see Adjusting the gearbox control drive).
