Start moving the car in first gear and, as the crankshaft speed increases, shift to higher gears in a timely manner.
To move in reverse, move the gear lever to the position corresponding to reverse gear. To do this, after selecting the line of inclusion, drown the gearshift lever.
Attention. Engage reverse gear only when the vehicle is completely stopped.
To overcome steep slopes, when driving on viscous soils, as well as to obtain maximum traction on paved roads, first engage a low gear in the transfer case.
To overcome difficult road sections, it is recommended to block the center differential in the transfer case by switching the lever to the appropriate position with the clutch pedal fully depressed.
Blocking is recommended to be done after a slight slip of the wheels. On a paved road, it is necessary to drive approximately 1 meter by changing the steering wheel angle.
Attention. To avoid damage and breakdowns, it is necessary to avoid switching with slipping wheels.
Constant movement of the vehicle with a locked differential will damage the transmission units. In case of difficult blocking, excessive force must be avoided. In these cases, it is necessary to repeat the procedures described above.
Unlock the differential after driving through difficult terrain - driving at high speed on good roads with a locked differential reduces vehicle handling, shortens the life of power train mechanisms, increases tire wear and fuel consumption, and may cause skidding when braking.
If it is difficult to unlock the differential, do it while reversing in a straight line.
Attention. In order to avoid the occurrence of dangerous skids of the car, it is unacceptable to turn on the differential lock while driving at high speeds.
After overcoming fords and driving in deep snow, as well as after washing the car or when driving for a long time on wet roads, when water gets into the brake mechanisms of the wheels, make several smooth braking of the car while driving to dry the discs, drums and brake linings.
Attention. Drive at constant speeds whenever possible. Sharp accelerations and decelerations, the movement of the car at high speeds lead to excessive fuel consumption. In addition, excessive fuel consumption is also caused by: insufficient air pressure in tires, worn or dirty spark plugs, the use of oils with a higher viscosity than recommended for the engine and transmission units.
While driving, monitor the operation of various systems using the appropriate instruments and indicator lamps. Under normal conditions, the red light lamps should not burn - their inclusion signals the need to check the corresponding system.
Overcoming fords, puddles
Attention
- When driving through water obstacles, you need to be extremely careful, as they can hide pits or underwater obstacles on which wheel disks or suspension parts can be damaged. It is not allowed to overcome water obstacles with a depth of more than 0.3 m. Entry into the water and wading should be carried out carefully, avoiding the formation of a wave in front of the radiator grille, since in this case water may enter the engine through the air filter intake. This will inevitably lead to engine failure.
- To prevent water from entering the ignition system due to the operation of the electric fan, it is necessary to turn off the air conditioner before overcoming water obstacles.
After prolonged operation of the vehicle in water, it is necessary to check the penetration of water into the crankcases of the front and rear axles, if necessary, change the oil.
Warning. Pay special attention and caution in the first minutes after the start of rain, as moistened dust forms a slippery film on the road surface, which sharply reduces the grip of tires on the road.
Regularly while driving, lightly brake the car to dry the brakes, as the effectiveness of damp brakes drops sharply.
When overtaking, turn on the windshield wiper to the maximum mode - this will help to avoid loss of visibility due to the possible release of water from under the wheels of the vehicle being overtaken. It is advisable to apply such precautions even if you are overtaken.
Do not overtake in rainy weather if the water cloud from under the wheels of the vehicle in front completely blocks the view of the overtaking zone.
In order not to move in the water plume from the vehicles in front, increase the distance and reduce the speed of movement.
When driving along sidewalks during or after rain, or when driving through puddles, slow down to prevent spray from under your vehicle's wheels from reaching pedestrians.
Movement in winter
Warning. Be very careful on wet or slippery road surfaces - do not allow sudden braking and sudden depressing and releasing the accelerator pedal. Drive the car smoothly, without sudden movements of the steering wheel. Slow down only by gradually shifting to lower gears with partial braking with service brakes. If, in spite of everything, the car begins to skid, turn the steering wheel in the direction of skidding and level the car with smooth operation of the steering wheel and gas pedal.
In places where roads cross, ice often occurs due to wheel slip when starting off. Therefore, when approaching such places in advance, in a dry area, begin to slow down.
In winter, it can be difficult to start on a slippery surface. To do this, turn on the second gear and, slowly releasing the clutch pedal, gradually increase the engine speed. In some cases, it is useful to lock the center differential before starting to move.
In mountainous area
Attention. When driving uphill, switch to lower gears in a timely manner, avoiding overloading the engine and jerking the car. If necessary, engage a lower gear in the transfer case.
On long descents, use the engine in braking mode with partial use of the service brakes.
Warning. Never descend with the clutch disengaged and using only the service brakes. This will cause the brakes to heat up and the brake fluid to boil. Keep in mind that as altitude increases, the boiling point of brake fluid decreases. Boiling brake fluid in the wheel cylinders means a complete failure of the service brakes - the brake pedal fails.
In mountainous areas, keep to the right side of the road. The smaller width of the road and the complex profile of the track require more attention and caution. At turns give sound and light signals. When stopping on an uphill or downhill, turn the steering wheel all the way so that in the event of a spontaneous start of the vehicle’s movement, its wheels rest against the curb of the road.
On a slippery road, do not start driving up a steep hill until the vehicle in front has reached the top of the hill.
Power steering
The car is equipped with power steering, which significantly reduces the effort on the steering wheel. If the power steering does not work (e.g. when towing a vehicle with the engine off), you can still drive the car, but this requires much more effort to be applied to the steering wheel. Functional noise is allowed in the extreme positions of the steering wheel.
Warning
- Do not coast with the engine off! In this case, the power steering does not work, so you endanger yourself and other road users.
- It is not allowed to hold the steering wheel in extreme positions for a long time.
