Automatic control of lighting devices (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

The light switch with automatic headlight control system has four positions that activate different lighting functions, which are listed below.

: All lights are off.

All lights turn off and the handle returns to its original AUTO position.

AUTO: Automatic switching on and off of lights that should light in the position or depending on the external lighting. (Default position.)

: Turns on the tail lights, license plate light and instrument panel light.

: The low beam headlights and the lights that come on in position are switched on .

To turn off the automatic headlight control system, turn the light switch lever to the "OFF" position. After releasing, the lever automatically returns to the normal position.


To turn on the automatic headlight control system, turn the light switch lever to the "OFF" position again.

Caution: To ensure that this function operates properly, do not place stickers or any other objects on the light sensor located in front of the windshield defroster vents. This may cause the sensor to operate incorrectly.

Caution: If you open the driver's door or press the UNLOCK button (unlock) on the remote control, the instrument panel backlight lamps will automatically turn on and remain lit for 30 seconds.

Headlight switch indicator

If the ignition is off and the light switch is in the position or , then after opening the driver's door, a sound signal is given. However, the alarm is turned off if you turn on the lights again after they were turned off during the sound signal.

Outdoor lighting function

The exterior lighting function provides a period of exterior lighting when there is insufficient light outside. This function is activated when the exterior lights are switched on by the automatic headlight control system when the ignition is switched off.

Proximity indicator

This function is activated when the light switch is in the "AUTO" position and there is not enough light outside.


After pressing the "UNLOCK" button on the remote control to enter the vehicle, the hazard warning lights will flash twice and the exterior lights will automatically turn on for 20 seconds.

Lighting associated with windshield wiper operation

This function is activated when the light switch is in the "AUTO" position.

If the windshield wipers operate for more than 8 cycles, the exterior lights will turn on automatically.
