Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Remove the protective cap from the spare wheel. Use a socket wrench to unscrew the three nuts and remove the spare wheel.
Loosen the four nuts securing the spare wheel bracket and remove the bracket. Remove the rear window wiper arm.
Open the tailgate. Unscrew the cover and remove the windshield washer reservoir neck trim.
Remove the four self-tapping screws and remove the upper center trim 3 of the rear door.
Remove two trims, unscrew two screws 9, remove the left 4 and right 12 trims of the rear door.
Remove the trim 10 of the rear door, overcoming the force of the plastic buttons 11.
Disconnect the connector (see figure 8-50) wiring harness of the windshield wiper gear motor 8. Unscrew the three nuts with washers and remove the gear motor.

Remove the windshield washer nozzle.
Disconnect rod 1 of outer handle 10 and rod 2 of switch 9 of lock from lock 3.
Loosen the nut and bolt securing the outer tailgate handle and remove the handle.
Unscrew three screws and remove door lock 3.
Unscrew the two screws and remove the tailgate pin 7.
Unscrew the four bolts securing the limiter 5 (see figure 8-49) opening the tailgate and remove the limiter.
Assemble the tailgate in the reverse order of disassembly.
Lubricate the rubbing surfaces of the lock, hinges, latch and door opening limiter with Litol-24 lubricant.
Adjust the operation of the lock and the direction of the washer fluid jet.
