1. Extraneous sounds when starting and running the engine



Detonation knocks



Note: Detonation knock is a sharp double-tone knock that appears when the engine load increases dynamically (the engine management system malfunction indicator light may come on)


1. The octane number of gasoline is lower than required if knocking sounds appeared immediately after refueling the car.

2. Engine overheating. Check the coolant temperature gauge on the instrument cluster and, if the engine is indeed overheating, eliminate the cause of the engine overheating.

3. The knock sensor is faulty. Perform diagnostics of the engine management system. Check the knock sensor, replace the faulty one.

4. The engine management system is faulty. Perform diagnostics of the engine management system. Replace faulty parts.

5. Carbon deposits on valves and combustion chambers (frequent short distance travel). Self-cleaning requires a long drive at a speed of at least 90 km/h. If this is not possible, special fuel additives can be used to remove carbon deposits.

Noises and knocks in the engine (except for detonation knocks, see above)



1. A whirring knocking noise from the top of the engine: the valve drive clearances are incorrect. Check the technical condition of the engine. Adjust the valve clearances.

2. Wear of pistons, cylinders, malfunction of the timing mechanism. Check the technical condition of the engine. Repair the engine.



The starter operates with a loud noise (grinding)



1. The starter mounting bolts are loose. Check the tightening torque of the starter threaded connections and tighten them if necessary.

2. The starter or its solenoid relay is faulty. Check the starter, replace the faulty solenoid relay or replace the starter assembly.

Increased exhaust noise



1. The tightness of the exhaust system connections is broken. Determine the location of the leak. Check the tightening torques of the threaded connections of the fasteners. If this method fails to restore the tightness of the system, replace the seal.

2. The tightness of the exhaust system parts is broken due to corrosion or mechanical damage. Check the technical condition of the exhaust system and replace faulty parts.

2. Extraneous sounds and vibrations that occur while the vehicle is moving



Knocking (clicking) noise when turning the car at low speed



1. Wear of outer constant velocity joints. Check the technical condition of the front wheel drives, replace faulty parts.

2. The fastening of the front suspension parts has become loose. Check the technical condition of the front suspension. Tighten loose fastening elements to the prescribed tightening torque for threaded connections.

3. The steering components have become loose. Check the technical condition of the steering. Tighten loose fastening elements to the prescribed tightening torque for threaded connections.

4. The differential is faulty. Check the technical condition of the gearbox. Remove the gearbox, repair or replace it.



Knocking noises when driving over uneven surfaces



1. The engine crankcase protection has become loose. Tighten loose fastening elements to the prescribed tightening torque for threaded connections.

2. Loosening of suspension fasteners. Tighten loose fastening elements to the prescribed tightening torque for threaded connections.

3. The front suspension is faulty. Check the technical condition of the front suspension. Replace faulty parts.

4. The rear suspension is faulty. Check the technical condition of the rear suspension. Replace faulty parts.

5. The exhaust system suspension cushion is damaged. Check the condition of the cushions, replace faulty parts.

Vibration when driving a car at high speed (over 90 km/h)



1. The vehicle wheels are out of balance. Have your wheels balanced in a specialist workshop.

2. The geometry of the tires or wheel rims is damaged due to deformation. Replace deformed parts.

3. Wear of constant velocity joints of front wheel drives. Check the technical condition of the front wheel drives. Replace faulty parts.

Vibration when braking



Warping of brake discs. Check and replace brake discs.
