Vehicle Identification Number
The vehicle identification number (VIN) is stamped on the body floor reinforcement in front of the front passenger seat.

To access it, move the front passenger seat as far back as possible and lift the cover.

The identification number is also duplicated on the identification plate, which is attached to the middle pillar of the car on the left side...

...and on the plate, on the instrument panel on the left, under the windshield.

As the name suggests, the number is used to identify the vehicle. When registering a vehicle and when deregistering it, the employee of the registration department checks the identification number of the vehicle and compares it with the number entered in the technical passport of the vehicle (PTS). Therefore, the number should be treated with care, no actions should be taken that could damage the number or make it difficult to read.
Using the identification number, you can select and order a spare part for your car. This minimizes the chance that the part you buy will not fit your modification. And this is not impossible if you select spare parts only by model name and year of manufacture. To order spare parts, you should write down and have with you not only the identification number of the car, but also the engine.
The decoding of the identification number contains the following data:
- international Manufacturer's Code;
- car model, its characteristics and equipment;
- transmission type;
- model year code;
- serial number of the vehicle body.
