The Daytime Running Light (DRL) system automatically switches on the low beam headlights when the engine is started. The headlights go out when the engine is running only when the automatic transmission selector is moved to the Park position. After the parking brake is released and the selector lever is moved to another position, the headlights continue to operate as long as the ignition switch is in the ON position.
The DRL system supplies the headlights with reduced voltage, which reduces the brightness of the bulbs during daylight hours and increases their service life.
