Although the wire of the fuse links appears visually thicker than the wires in the circuit they protect, this impression is deceptive: it is the thick layer of insulation that makes them so. All fuse links are four times thinner than the wires they protect.
Fusible links are not repairable; you need to install a new insert with a wire of the same cross-section. To do this, follow these steps:
- a) Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
- b) Disconnect the fuse link from the wire harness.
- c) Cut the damaged insert from the wiring directly behind the electrical connector.
- d) Strip the insulation from the end of the wire by about 13 mm.
- d) Install the electrical connector onto the new fuse link and crimp it into place.
- e) To obtain good contact, solder the connections on both contacts.
- g) Insulate both connection points. The wires should not be visible from under the insulation.
- c) Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Check the circuit for proper operation.
