Note: On vehicles equipped with the Delco Loc II audio system, ensure that the audio lockout device is disabled before performing any procedures that require disconnecting the negative battery cable.
This section of the chapter covers the repair work performed on the 3.1L V6 engine, which is a cast iron, six-cylinder block with a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders, the angle between which is 60°. The cylinder head has replaceable guide bushings and valve seats. Hydraulic tappets actuate valves via tubular rods.
All information on the procedure for removing and installing the engine, as well as repairing the cylinder head, is contained in parts 2.3 this chapter. The procedures below apply to the case where the engine is not removed from the vehicle. If the engine was removed from the car and installed on a stand, then a significant portion of the points in this part of the chapter can be omitted.
The technical specifications given in this part of Chapter 2 apply exclusively to the procedures discussed therein. IN parts 2.3 this chapter contains the technical conditions necessary for repairing the cylinder head and cylinder block.
