Warning:
- It is forbidden to leave children in the car if the key is in the ignition. Children can turn on power windows, operate other vehicle controls, or even start the engine and drive away. This could result in injury or even death to children or people outside the vehicle. Children can be seriously injured or even killed if they are in the window opening when the glass is closed.
- Do not leave children unattended in the car.
1. When you buy a new car, you get a key with a double-sided bit, which is used to turn on the ignition and unlock/lock all the locks (see illustration). This key has a code number that is given to the first owner upon delivery of the vehicle. The code number allows your dealer to make a duplicate key if necessary.
2.1 Car key
2. If you lose your key, you can easily order a duplicate using this code. This code may also be stored by your dealer. Caution: The anti-theft system may make it difficult to enter the vehicle if you leave your keys inside. When opening the door, you may even have to damage the car. Therefore, it is advisable to have spare keys.
Passlock® System
3. Your vehicle is equipped with a passive anti-theft system. This system only turns on the fuel supply when the correct key is inserted into the ignition switch. If the system detects that an incorrect key is being used or detects an attempt to force the ignition lock cylinder, the fuel supply will be blocked.
4. If the wrong key was used, or if the engine stalls and the anti-theft alarm indicator flashes, turn the key to the lock position and wait about ten minutes until the indicator stops flashing before you try to start the engine again. If the engine does not start after three attempts, your car needs repair.
5. If the anti-theft system indicator lights up while driving, this may indicate a malfunction of the system. You will be able to restart the engine, but the vehicle will not be protected by the Passlock® system. Contact your dealer for repairs. Caution: Do not leave keys or anti-theft alarm disabling devices in the vehicle.
