Starting the engine
1. Before starting the engine, make sure the parking brake lever is tightened. When starting the engine, the gearshift lever must be in the P (Park) or N (Neutral) position. To restart the engine when the vehicle is already moving, use the N (Neutral) position.
Warning:
- Do not shift the automatic transmission selector lever to the P (Park) position while the vehicle is moving.
- Otherwise, you may damage your vehicle's transmission.
2. Turn the ignition key to the START position. Do not press the accelerator pedal. Release the key after the engine starts. The idle speed will decrease as the engine warms up.
3. If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, the system will stop cranking the engine to prevent damage to the starter.
4. Do not increase the engine speed immediately after starting the engine.
5. Allow sufficient time for the engine to warm up and for engine oil to reach all engine parts requiring lubrication.
Computerized engine start control system
6. This system facilitates engine starting and prevents the possibility of damage to various components of the car. Once the engine cranks, it will continue to crank for a few seconds or until the engine starts.
7. If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, the system will stop cranking the engine to prevent damage to the starter.
8. To stop the engine from cranking or to stop the engine, turn the ignition key to the ACC or LOCK position.
Starting the engine in cold weather
9. When starting the engine in very cold weather (at temperatures below - 18°C), turn the ignition key to the START position and hold it in this position for up to 15 seconds. Release the key after the engine starts.
10. To avoid discharging the battery and damaging the starter, wait at least 15 seconds before attempting to start the engine again.
11. After the engine starts, allow it to warm up before driving. Do not increase engine speed until the engine has warmed up.
12. Allow sufficient time for the engine to warm up and for engine oil to reach all engine parts requiring lubrication.
Excess gasoline in engine cylinders
13. If the engine does not start within ten seconds, it is possible that too much gasoline was supplied to the engine cylinders. In this case, press the accelerator pedal all the way down and continue to hold the ignition key in the START position for another five seconds.
14. After the engine starts, release the key and remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.
15. If the engine starts and then stalls immediately, repeat the same steps. This will remove excess gasoline from the engine cylinders.
16. To avoid discharging the battery and damaging the starter, wait at least 15 seconds before attempting to start the engine again.
17. After the engine starts, allow it to warm up before driving. Do not increase engine speed until the engine has warmed up.
18. Allow sufficient time for the engine to warm up and for engine oil to reach all engine parts requiring lubrication.
