Excessive wear of the drive belt (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

            0

Diagnostic information

Excessive drive belt wear is usually caused by improper installation or incorrect drive belt selection. Minor pulley misalignment does not cause excessive drive belt wear, but will cause the belt to slip. Significant pulley misalignment can cause excessive drive belt wear, but will also cause the belt to slip.

Description of the test

The item numbers below are the step numbers in the diagnostic chart.
  1. Confirms that the drive belt is installed correctly on all pulleys in the drive system of the units. Drive belt wear can be caused by the drive belt not being positioned correctly in one or more grooves of a particular pulley.
  2. Installing a drive belt of the wrong width will cause it to wear out. The ribs of the drive belt must match all the grooves on all the pulleys of the drive system of the units.
  3. Confirms that the drive belt does not contact any engine or body parts during operation. Sufficient clearance must always be maintained when loads on accessory drive components change. The drive belt must not contact any engine or body parts.

Diagnostic table

Definition: Excessive wear can be defined as wear on the outer ribs of the drive belt (frayed edges), usually caused by improper installation of the drive belt.
