We check the amount of belt wear by the position of the indicator arrow on the body of its automatic tensioner. To access the belt tensioner, remove the air filter (see Removal the air filter).

The belt tensioner housing is located under the power steering pump pulley.

The indicator arrow on the movable part of the tensioner must be located between the two outer marks on the fixed part of its body.
If the indicator arrow has dropped below the leftmost mark, the belt is extremely worn and must be replaced.
The belt also needs to be replaced if cracks, tears or separation of the rubber from the fabric base are found.
To remove the auxiliary drive belt, loosen its tension.
For this…

…using a 14 mm open-end wrench, we turn the tensioner roller clockwise by its mounting bolt, loosening the belt tension…

…and remove the belt from the pulleys of the generator, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor and auxiliary drive.
The drive belt can be removed from underneath the vehicle, but this will require a ramp or inspection pit and the right mudguard of the engine compartment must be removed (see Removal the engine compartment mudguards).

By analogy with the operation performed in the engine compartment, using a 14 mm open-end wrench, turn the tensioner roller clockwise by its mounting bolt, loosen the belt tension and…

…we remove the belt from the pulleys of the generator, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor and auxiliary drive.

Drive belt marking (six-wedge, 1875 mm long).
We install the auxiliary drive belt in the reverse order.
