Checking the level of working fluid in the power steering reservoir (Chevrolet Lacetti J200)

            0

The fluid poured into the hydraulic drive of the power steering is designed for the entire service life of the car. We check the fluid level in the hydraulic booster reservoir at each maintenance, as well as when a fluid leak is detected from the hydraulic drive of the power steering, when the efficiency of the steering decreases, or when extraneous noise (howling) appears when turning the steering wheel.

It is important to determine the location of the leak as accurately as possible, since in this case, most likely, it will be necessary to replace the worn or damaged part.

We use the following technique:
  • with the engine off, wipe dry all steering components;
  • we check the fluid level in the power steering pump reservoir and, if necessary, bring it up to normal;
  • start the engine and turn the steering wheel several times until it stops in the extreme left and extreme right positions;
  • we find the exact location of the leak and eliminate the cause.

For topping up and replacing fluid in the power steering system, it is necessary to use DEXRON IV working fluid.

The power steering reservoir is located in the engine compartment on the left, next to the battery. Check the level of the working fluid in the reservoir on a horizontal surface with the engine not running.

The tank body has MIN and MAX marks, between which the working fluid level should be when the engine is cold.
