Removal procedure



Caution! Do not smoke or use open flames in areas where work is being performed on the fuel system. When working on the fuel system, disconnect the negative battery cable except for those checks that require battery voltage.


1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the decorative cover. See Section 1B, "Engine Mechanical System - 2.0 Diesel".

3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. See Section 1B, "Engine Mechanical System - 2.0 Diesel".

4. Disconnect the fuel inlet/outlet line from the fuel filter.

5. Disconnect the heater and fuel temperature sensor connector (a).

6. Disconnect the water in fuel sensor connector (b).

7. Remove the fuel filter assembly from the bracket upwards.

7. Remove the fuel filter assembly from the bracket upwards.


8. Install the EN-48303 filter housing holder (a) and the EN-48304 fuel filter lock remover/installer (b) onto the fuel filter assembly.



9. Turn the EN-48304 fuel filter lock remover/installer (b) counterclockwise.

10. Remove the fuel filter retainer (a).

11. Remove the fuel filter cover (b) together with the sealing ring (c).

12. Remove the fuel filter (d) from the fuel filter housing (e).

Note: The fuel filter cover is made with the heater and fuel temperature sensor as a single unit. Likewise, the fuel filter housing is made with the water-in-fuel sensor as a single unit.


Caution: If the fuel filter element is exposed to air for more than a minute, it cannot be reused.


Procedure for draining water



1. Turn the fuel water drain screw counterclockwise.

2. After finishing, turn the trigger screw in the opposite direction.

3. Perform fuel bleeding. See "Pumping fuel" in this section.

Installation procedure



Warning! Do not touch the fuel filter element with your hands. A damaged element affects the engine performance and can cause the injection pump and injectors to fail.


1. Install the fuel filter (d) into the fuel filter housing (e).

2. Install the fuel filter cover (b) together with the sealing ring (c).

3. Install the fuel filter lock (a) using the EN-48303 filter housing holder and the EN-48304 fuel filter lock remover/installer.

Tighten

Tighten the fuel filter lock to 30 Nm (22.1 ft·lbs).

Tighten the fuel filter lock to 30 Nm (22.1  ft·lbs).
