Removal procedure
1. Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system to a level below the thermostat housing. Follow step "Draining and filling the cooling system" in this section.
2. Remove the timing belt. See Section 1C1, Engine Mechanical - FAM II 2.4D.
3. Remove the automatic timing belt tensioner.

4. Remove the coolant pump mounting bolts.
5. Remove the coolant pump from the cylinder block.
6. Remove the sealing ring from the coolant pump.

Checking and cleaning procedure
1. Check the coolant pump housing for damage and leaks.
2. Check the coolant pump bearing for play and excessive noise.
3. Check the coolant pump pulley for excessive wear. If the coolant pump is faulty, replace the entire coolant pump.
4. Clean the mating surfaces of the coolant pump and cylinder block.

Installation procedure
1. Install a new O-ring onto the coolant pump.
2. Install the coolant pump onto the cylinder block so that the flange aligns with the recess in the rear timing belt cover.
3. Secure the coolant pump to the cylinder block with the mounting screws.
Tighten
Tighten the water pump mounting screws to 25 Nm (18 ft·lbs).

4. Install the automatic timing belt tensioner onto the oil pump, inserting the flange into the recess in the oil pump.
5. Install the timing belt automatic tensioner screws. Do not fully tighten the screw yet.
6. Install the timing belt. See Section 1C1, Engine Mechanical - FAM II 2.4D.
7. Fill the engine cooling system. Follow the step "Draining and filling the cooling system" in this section.
