Removing the front wheel drive (see Removing the front wheel drive).
We clean the hinge from the outside and clamp the drive shaft in a vise with soft metal jaw pads.
We pry off the retaining ring with a screwdriver..
...and take it off.
We bite the large collar of the cover with side cutters..
... or, by inserting a screwdriver blade into the clamp lock, we unclench it..
... disconnect and remove the clamp.
Remove the small clamp in the same way.
We shift the hinge cover along the shaft.
If the hinge is removed only to replace the cover..
... with a needle file we mark the relative position of the shaft hinge housing and the three-stud.
Using pliers, we unclench the retaining ring of the three-thorn..
... and take it out of the shaft groove.
We remove the three-stud assembly with rollers from the shaft.
We remove the cover from the shaft.
Thoroughly clean the shaft and joint from old grease if the joint is to be used in the future.
We apply a thin layer of new grease to the shaft and put on a new cover.
We install the three-stud in the reverse order.
Retaining rings and clamps are replaced with new ones.
We put new grease into the cavities of the hinge body and the cover, only 140–160 g.
Install the cover on the hinge body.
Using a thin-blade screwdriver, pry the edge of the case away from the body to equalize the air pressure inside and outside the case.
Fasten it with clamps (see Removing the outer hinge).
