Note: New or remanufactured cylinder heads for most engines are generally available at auto supply stores. Since some special tools are required to perform disassembly and inspection, and the parts required for replacement are not always available, it may be more practical and cost-effective to purchase a complete head assembly for replacement if you are doing the repair yourself, rather than spending time disassembling, inspecting and rebuilding the old heads.
1. Disassembling the cylinder head involves removing the intake and exhaust valves and associated parts. Loosen the rocker arm mounting bolts and remove the valve rocker arm struts from the cylinder heads. Label the parts or store them separately so that they can be returned to their original positions.
2. Before removing the valves, prepare paper sheets for labeling and storage of parts together with the corresponding parts so that they can be stored separately and then installed in their original position (see illustration).
8.2. In order to store all small parts separately, which are then installed in their original places, you can use small plastic bags with appropriate inscriptions
3. Compress the springs on the first valve using the tool and remove the crackers (see illustration). Carefully release the spring and remove the plate, spring and spring seat (if it is used).
8.3 Use a special device to compress the spring, and then remove the crackers from the valve stem
4. Remove the valve from the head, then remove the oil seal from the guide bushing. If the valve sticks (can't be pulled out), push it back into the head and clean the area above the cracker groove with a fine-grain file or abrasive block (see illustration).
8.4 If the valve does not come out of the guide bushing, clean the edges of the end of the stem and the area above the groove of the holder with a file or abrasive stone
5. Repeat these operations for the remaining valves. Remember to keep all the parts of each valve together so that you can later install them in their original position.
6. After completing the valve removal, it is necessary to thoroughly clean and inspect the cylinder head. If you are performing a complete engine overhaul, you must complete the engine disassembly prior to cleaning and inspection.
