6. Remove the cylinder head cover.

Caution! If the cover does not give in, then move it by hammering it through a soft spacer, or carefully open the seal with a spatula or a blunt knife. It is prohibited to separate the cover by inserting a tool between the separable surfaces.

7. Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces of the cover and cylinder head, remove traces of oil. Install a new gasket in the cover groove (on a 7.4 liter V8 engine it is permissible to install the old gasket). The gasket does not need to be changed if it has not hardened and is not damaged).

8. Clean all threaded holes in the cover, go through them with a tap to remove corrosion and restore damaged threads.

9. Install new gaskets on the cover. First apply a thin layer of RTV sealant to the flange part of the cover, then wait a little for the sealant to "set", and then stick the gasket on.

10. Carefully place the cover on the head and tighten the bolts.

11. Tighten the nuts/bolts in three stages, to the torque specified Technical Data.

12. Install the removed parts.

13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
