This chapter covers procedures for repairing engines without removing them from the vehicle.
When describing some repair procedures, it was taken into account that the engine is installed on the car, therefore, they are not applicable for disassembly and overhaul.
The V8 engines used in Chevrolet and GMC trucks range from 5.0 to 7.4 liters. The 5.0 liter and 5.7 liter engines are known as «small blocks» («small block»), the 7.4 liter engine is known as the Mark IV or «big block» («big block»).
The V6 engine has a displacement of 4.3 liters and is almost indistinguishable from the V8 engine. Almost all procedures for the V6 engine are the same as for the V8, the differences are noted in the text.
