Exhaust manifold — removal and installation (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. Remove the air filter to access the right air filter manifold.

3. Disconnect the wire from the oxygen sensor if the manifold is removed together with the sensor.

4. Disconnect the tube from the check valve and remove the tube together with the bracket (see Chapter 6).

5. Remove the generator and power steering struts from the left exhaust manifold (see photo).

6. Mark and disconnect the spark plug wires and remove the spark plugs

7. If the right manifold on a V8 engine is being removed, remove the oil level indicator pipe by unscrewing the bolts.

9. Set the car's parking brake and block the rear wheels. Raise the front of the car and place it on stands. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold, lubricating the fasteners with penetrating liquid (see Chapter 4).



10. First remove the two front and two rear manifold mounting bolts, then remove the middle bolts (see photo). Remove the manifold. Some engines are equipped with manifold bolt locking plates to prevent the bolts from loosening spontaneously due to vibrations. The edges of the plates should be bent back beforehand.

11. Installation is performed in the reverse order. Clean the split surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head, completely removing the remains of the gasket material. Replace the gasket with a new one. Tighten all bolts to the specified torque in 3 stages, starting from the central bolts and moving to the peripheral ones. Lubricate the nuts of the mounting studs with an anti-seize compound.
