Recommended oils and fluids
Motor oil:
- Type - API SG, SG/CC or SG/CD
- Viscosity - See diagram 1
Hydraulic fluid - ATF for automatic transmission Dexron II, IIE or III
Engine Coolant - A 50/50 mixture of water and ethylene glycol antifreeze
Brake fluid - Delco Supreme II or DOT 3
Hydraulic fluid for power steering — GM Fluid or equivalent
Capacities*
Motor oil (with filter replacement) — 4.0 quarts
Fuel tank - 20 gallons
Cooling system - 12 quarts
Drive axle in block with automatic transmission (with filter replacement):
- Three stage - 4 quarts
- Four stage - 6 quarts

Spark plug type:
Engine 3.1L - AC type R43TS or equivalent
Determining the required viscosity of motor oil
To achieve maximum fuel economy and ensure that the engine starts at low temperatures, choose the brand with the lowest viscosity on the SAE scale to increase the operating temperature range.
Arrangement of cylinders and direction of rotation of the distributor rotor
Engine 3.8L - AC type R43LTS6 or equivalent
Spark plug gap size:
- 3.1L Engine - 0.045 in
- 3.8L Engine - 0.060 in
The order of operation of engine cylinders:
- Engine 3.1L - 1-2-3-4-5-6
- Engine 3.8L - 1-6-5-4-3-2

Radiator cap valve opening pressure - 15 psi
Brake lining wear limit is 1/8 inch
