Attention! After deployment, a powdery residue may remain on the surface of the airbag. This sediment is made up primarily of cornstarch (which serves as a lubricant for the inflatable pillow) and by-products of a chemical reaction. Sodium hydroxide after actuation quickly reacts with atmospheric moisture and turns into sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate (so-called drinking soda). Therefore, the presence of sodium hydroxide after the air bag has been deployed is unlikely.
Attention! Be sure to wear gloves and goggles during disposal.
Attention! After deployment, the metal surfaces of the air bag module are hot. To prevent injury and fire, do not place the deployed airbag module near flammable objects and allow it to cool for 30 minutes before taking any further action.
Deploy the airbag or seat belt pretensioner before disposing of it.
This also applies to situations where the entire vehicle is destined for recycling. If the vehicle is still under warranty, please contact your local Daewoo service manager for authorization or special instructions before deploying the airbag module or seat belt pretensioner. Dispose of the deployed airbag module or seat belt pretensioner in the same manner as any other machine scrap, with the addition of the following steps:
1. Place the deployed airbag or seat belt pretensioner in a strong plastic bag.
2. Seal the package securely.
3. Wash your hands and rinse them with water after handling a deployed airbag.
