Removal procedure
Caution! To prevent injury, do not remove the expansion tank cap when the engine and radiator are hot, as heat maintains pressure in the system. Hot fluid and steam may escape under high pressure.
1. Drain the coolant. Follow step "Draining and filling the cooling system" in this section.
2. Loosen the lower radiator hose clamp on the water pipe.
3. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water pipe.

4. Remove the bolts securing the water pipe from the cylinder head and thermostat housing.
5. Remove the water pipe.

6. Remove the heater inlet and outlet hoses from the heater inlet and outlet tubes.
7. Remove the heater inlet and outlet pipes from the thermostat housing.

8. Remove the mounting bolts holding the thermostat housing to the cylinder block.
9. Remove the thermostat housing from the cylinder block.
10. Remove and discard the thermostat housing gasket to the cylinder block.

11. Remove the thermostat (1) from the thermostat housing (2) in the following order:
- a. Secure the thermostat housing in a vice with soft jaws.
- b. Press the retaining rod (3) on both sides of the thermostat and rotate the thermostat until it passes the retaining tabs (4) on the thermostat housing (2).
- c. Loosen the thermostat spring compression force.
- d. Remove the thermostat assembly from the thermostat housing.

Installation procedure
1. Install the heater inlet and outlet pipes to the thermostat housing.
Tighten
Tighten the heater inlet and outlet pipe mounting bolts to 12 N·m (106 lbs.in).

2. Install the thermostat into the thermostat housing.
3. Make sure the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and thermostat housing are clean and dry.
4. Install a new gasket onto the thermostat housing.
5. Install the thermostat housing to the cylinder block.
Tighten
Tighten the thermostat housing mounting bolts to 10 Nm (89 lbs.in).

6. Install the water tube.
Tighten
Tighten the water pipe mounting bolt to the thermostat housing to 20 N·m (15 ft·lbs).
Tighten the water pipe mounting bolt to the cylinder head to 33 N·m (24 ft·lbs).

7. Connect the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
8. Connect the heater inlet and outlet hoses to the heater inlet and outlet tube.
9. Secure the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing with a hose clamp.
10. Fill the engine cooling system. Follow the step "Draining and filling the cooling system" in this section.
