Removal and installation the steering wheel (Chevrolet Lumina 1)

Warning! Performing the following procedure on 1994 vehicles is dangerous! These vehicles are equipped with an airbag on the steering wheel. Do not attempt to remove the steering wheel until you have read the airbag information in chapter 12. Failure to follow this warning may result in accidental deployment of the air bag, which could result in serious injury.


1. If you are working on a 1994 model year vehicle, disconnect the airbag sensor and have a shop remove the airbag from the steering wheel.

2. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. On 1993 and earlier vehicles, remove the horn switch cover from the steering wheel (see illustration).

4. On 1993 and earlier vehicles, remove the spring and horn contact lead (see illustration).

5. On all models, remove the steering wheel hub nut, then mark the relative positions of the steering wheel shaft and hub to aid installation and ensure proper steering wheel alignment (see illustration).

6. Use a puller to remove the steering wheel from the shaft (see illustration).
