General description
49. The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located in the housing directly above the gearbox on the right side (see illustrations). It sends a pulsed voltage signal to the ECM/PCM, which converts it into mph. This sensor is part of the transmission's torque converter clutch (TCC).

Examination
50. To check the speed sensor, disconnect the I/P electrical connector from the wire harness near the sensor. The voltage on the brown or yellow wire (N437 on the 3.1L engine or "GD14" on the 3.8L engine respectively) should be at least 10 V. If not, send the ECM/PCM to a workshop for inspection.
Replacement
51. To replace the speed sensor, unscrew its mounting screw, remove the bracket and pull the sensor out of the socket (see illustrations 4.49a and 4.496). Once you have located the sensor's flexible lead in the wire bundle, disconnect its connector.
52. The sensor is installed in the reverse order.
