Note: Before replacing the converter yourself, consult with the company representative regarding the warranty provided for the catalyst as an element of the toxicity reduction system.
1. Catalytic converter (neutralizer) is a device included in the exhaust system. The neutralizer is designed to reduce harmful impurities in the vehicle's exhaust gases. This design uses a three-channel catalyst, the filler of which contains platinum and rhodium. The presence of these chemical elements reduces the content of nitrogen oxides (NO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) in the exhaust.
2. The equipment for diagnosing the catalyst is complex and expensive. If there are any problems with the catalytic converter, you should take the car to a company station for testing and necessary replacement.
Replacement
Note: For additional information, see Chapter 4, subsection on exhaust system maintenance.
3. Raise the vehicle and support it on vertical stands.
4. Remove the bolts and disconnect the catalytic converter inlet pipe from the exhaust manifold.
5. Unscrew the bolts of the flange connection of the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe, then disconnect and support the pipe.
6. Remove the catalytic converter together with the exhaust pipe.
7. Clean the flanges from carbon deposits.
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
