Note: This procedure applies to the front and rear secondary shaft seals.
1. Raise the vehicle and support it on vertical stands.
2. When replacing the front oil seal, it is necessary to remove the front propeller shaft. When replacing the rear oil seal, the rear propeller shaft must be removed (see chapter 8).
3. When replacing the front oil seal, it is necessary to pull the dust shield away from the secondary shaft. Tap the seal with a screwdriver to loosen it in the socket, then pry it up and remove the seal.
4. To remove the rear secondary shaft seal, simply pry it off with a screwdriver or a special tool. Avoid damaging the seal seat.
5. Lubricate the lip of the new seal with technical petroleum jelly.
6. Insert the seal into its original position using a special mandrel or deep head. The outside diameter of the head should be slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal. When installing the front oil seal, it is necessary to install the dust shield on the secondary shaft.
7. The rest of the installation procedure is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
