The engine does not start — the crankshaft does not turn (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Cause	Elimination
An accessory drive system component is seizing	Carefully inspect the components of the accessory drive system. Repair or replace all damaged components.
The cylinder is hydraulically locked Coolant/antifreeze has entered the cylinder There is oil in the cylinder Fuel got into the cylinder	Inspect the head gasket(s) for damage. Carefully inspect the engine block or cylinder head for cracks. Check the fuel injector for deposits.
Automatic transmission torque converter jamming	Remove the engine assembly. When installing the engine on the gearbox, there is no access to the torque converter bolts. Rotate the crankshaft by the pulley.
Manual transmission jamming	Disengage the clutch. Rotate the crankshaft by the pulley. See "Unit Repair Manual - Manual Transmission".
Foreign material in cylinder: Broken valve Piston material Foreign material	Carefully inspect the cylinder for damaged components and/or foreign material. Repair or replace if necessary.
Seizure of crankshaft or connecting rod bearings	Carefully inspect the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings Repair if necessary.
The connecting rod is deformed or damaged	Check the connecting rods. Repair if necessary.
The crankshaft is destroyed	Inspect the crankshaft. Repair if necessary.
