Withdrawal procedure
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the gearbox from the car. See Section 5B, "Five-speed manual gearbox".
3. Unscrew the bolts securing the pressure plate to the flywheel and remove the clutch pressure plate.
Important: When unscrewing the last bolt, you must hold the disc.
4. Remove the clutch disc from the flywheel.
Inspection Procedure - Clutch Drive
1. Inspection
- Visually inspect the clutch surfaces for wear or oiling.
- Check spring for damage or looseness.
- Check the clutch disc for deformation or warpage. If defects are found, install a new pressure plate and a new clutch disc.
2. Checking the clutch disc
- Measure the depth of the rivet head in relation to the disc surface.
- If the measured distance is less than the allowable limit, install a new pressure plate and a new clutch plate.
- Rivet head recessing depth (minimum allowable): 1.2 mm (0.047 inch)
Inspection Procedure - Clutch Pressure Plate
1. Check pressure spring petals for wear.
2. Check pressure plate surface for wear or cracking.
3. Check disc surface for oiling. If defects are found, install a new pressure plate and a new clutch disc.
Installation order
1. Lubricate the splines in the hub of the clutch disc with multipurpose grease.
2. Install the clutch and center the pressure and driven plates on the flywheel using a suitable tool.
Important: If pressure plate or clutch disc need to be replaced, replace both discs with new ones.
3. Screw in the bolts securing the pressure plate to the flywheel.
Tighten
Tighten bolts to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
4. Install the gearbox in the car. See Section 5B, "Five-speed manual gearbox".
5. Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery.
