We change the oil seal if there are traces of engine oil under the camshaft pulley. If an oil leak is detected through the camshaft oil seal, we also recommend replacing the timing belt, since oil that has got on the belt and pulleys will lead to a quick failure of the belt.

We show the replacement of the exhaust camshaft seal. We change the intake camshaft seal in the same way. For clarity, we show the replacement of the oil seal on a dismantled engine.
When unscrewing the bolt securing the camshaft pulley, it is necessary to keep the shaft from turning. There are two ways to perform this operation. In the first method, remove the cylinder head cover (see Replacing the cylinder head cover gasket).
With a spanner wrench or a "17" head, we unscrew the bolt securing the camshaft pulley, holding the shaft from turning by the hex protrusion with the "24" key.
In the second method, the cylinder head cover is not removed.
We put a 17 spanner wrench on the head of the camshaft pulley bolt and insert a powerful screwdriver through the hole in the pulley.
Leaning on the spoke of the pulley with a screwdriver blade, turn the key counterclockwise with the screwdriver rod. The pulley bolt will loosen. Pulley (and camshaft) it should not rotate.
Having unscrewed the bolt, remove the pulley.
Prying off the oil seal with a thin slotted screwdriver, remove it from the seat of the cylinder head.
After applying a thin layer of engine oil to the working edge of the new oil seal, we put the oil seal on the toe of the camshaft.
We press in the gland using a mandrel - a piece of pipe or a tool head of a suitable size.
Before installing a new belt, carefully wipe all drive pulleys of oil with a rag soaked in gasoline.
Install the camshaft pulley so that the pin on the toe of the camshaft enters the hole on the pulley.
The subsequent assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
