We change the oil seal if there are traces of engine oil under the toothed pulley of the camshaft or on the timing belt.
If an oil leak is detected through the camshaft seal, we recommend replacing the timing belt, since oil that gets on the belt and toothed pulleys of the camshaft and crankshaft will lead to rapid failure of the belt.
Before installing a new belt, you need to thoroughly wipe the pulleys with a rag soaked in gasoline.
Remove the timing belt (see Checking the condition and replacing the timing belt).

Using a 17 mm head, unscrew the camshaft pulley mounting bolt, holding the pulley from turning using a 10 mm head with an extension placed on the rear timing drive cover mounting bolt..

…and remove the pulley.

Using a screwdriver, we remove the seal from the cylinder head seat. After applying a thin layer of engine oil to the working edge of the new seal, we put the new seal on the camshaft nose.

We press in the seal using a tool head or a piece of pipe of a suitable size.
We install the toothed pulley of the camshaft so that the pin on the toe of the camshaft enters the hole in the pulley.
We carry out subsequent assembly in the reverse order. We adjust the tension of the timing belt (see Checking the condition and replacing the timing belt).
