Loosen the nut on the lower contact bolt of the traction relay 5 (figure 7-20) and disconnect the positive brush terminal from it. Unscrew the traction relay mounting screws and remove it. Disconnect the 4th relay anchor from the drive lever.
Figure 7-20. Starter parts:
1 - drive side cover;
2 - sealing gasket;
3 - lever bracket;
4 - traction relay anchor;
5 - traction relay;
6 - "negative" brush;
7 - gasket;
8 - back cover;
9 - brush retainer;
10 - "positive" brushes assembled with connecting busbar;
11 - brush holder;
12 - stator;
13 - anchor;
14 - tie rod;
15 - armature shaft support;
16 - central gear;
17 - planetary gear;
18 - drive shaft with planet carrier;
19 - internal gear;
20 - sealing ring;
21 - drive shaft support with insert;
22 - retaining ring;
23 - drive assembly;
24 - limiting ring;
25 - retaining ring.
Loosen the nuts of the tie rods 14 and detach the rear cover 8 with the brush holder 11 from the stator housing. If necessary, you can remove the brush holder by unscrewing the two screws securing it to the cover. To remove the brushes with springs from the brush holder, you need to remove the clamps 9.
Disconnect stator 12 with anchor 13 and anchor shaft support 15 from cover 1 on the drive side. Remove central gear 16 from the shaft, remove anchor shaft support from the stator housing, and then the anchor.
Remove planetary gears 17 from the carrier. Remove shaft 18 from cover 1, complete with drive 23, support 21 and gear 19. Remove sealing gasket 2 and lever bracket 3 from the lever.
To remove the drive from the shaft, remove the retaining ring 25 located under the limiting ring 24. Then, having removed the retaining ring 22, you can remove the drive shaft support 21, the sealing ring 20 and the gear 19.
To disassemble the traction relay, unscrew the screws securing its cover and unsolder the winding terminals from the "50" plug and from the busbar secured to the lower contact bolt of the traction relay.
After disassembling, blow out the starter parts (except for gearbox parts) compressed air and wipe.
The starter is assembled in the reverse order of disassembly.
Before assembly, lubricate the drive gear, the drive shaft helical splines, and the cover and shaft support liners with engine oil. Lubricate the gearbox gears with Litol-24 consistent grease.
