Attention! The check should be performed in a place away from vehicles and people. Put the car on the parking brake and press the brake pedal.
1. The starter interlock switch ensures that the starter is engaged only after the clutch pedal is pressed (on models with manual transmission) or after moving the transmission selector to the Park or Neutral position (on models with automatic transmission).
2. On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, try starting the engine in each selector position. The engine should only start in the Park or Neutral transmission selector positions. If the engine starts in any other selector position, the interlock switch is faulty or needs to be adjusted.
3. On cars with a manual transmission, the starter should only engage after pressing the clutch pedal. Otherwise, the switch is faulty (the switch is located near the top of the clutch pedal, opposite the pedal lever).
4. On vehicles with automatic transmission, ensure that the ignition key can only be turned to the Lock position when the transmission selector is in the Park position.
5. The ignition key must be removed from the lock position.
