Automatic transmission fluid and filter replacement (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

1. Work is performed on a cooled engine.

2. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.

3. Unscrew the transmission center support nut. Then, slightly jacking up the transmission under the pan through the board, insert a wooden block between the support and the cross member (see photo).

4. Place a container under the transmission to catch the fluid. Loosen the front and side pan bolts. Loosen the rear bolts only 4 turns.

5. Pry up and separate the tray, drain all the liquid into a container (see photo).

8. Remove the remaining bolts, pan and gasket. Carefully clean the sealing surface of the transmission housing.

9. Drain the fluid from the transmission pan. Clean the pan with solvent and dry.

10. Remove the filter from the bracket inside the transmission (see photo).

11. If the seal did not come out with the filter, then remove it from the transmission (see photo). Install a new filter and seal.

12. Install a new gasket on the pan. Position the pan in place. Tighten the pan bolts evenly and gradually to the specified torque.

13. Remove the vehicle from the stands by tightening the support nut and removing the block. Fill the transmission with fluid through the filler pipe.

14. Start the engine and set it to fast idle.

15. Move the transmission selector to all positions. Check the fluid level. If necessary, add fluid to the normal level (cOLD FULL mark on the dipstick).
