General information about engine repair (Chevrolet Lumina 1)

            0

Note: On vehicles equipped with the Delco Loc II audio system, ensure that the audio lockout device is disabled before performing any procedures that require disconnecting the negative battery cable.

This section of Chapter 2 covers the on-vehicle repair work on the 3.8L V6 engine. Like other General Motors V6 engines, the crankshaft is balanced by the flywheel, and the crankshaft pulley and counterweights are cast into the crankshaft.

All information on the removal and installation of the camshaft, balance shaft, flywheel, crankshaft and engine seals, as well as on the overhaul of the engine block and cylinder head is contained in part 2.3 of this chapter.

The procedures below apply to the case where the engine is not removed from the vehicle. If the engine was removed from the car and installed on a stand, then a significant portion of the points in this part of the chapter can be omitted.

The specifications given in this part of Chapter 2 pertain solely to the engine type considered here and the procedures described here. IN section 2.3 of Chapter 2 contains technical specifications, which must be followed when performing repair work on the cylinder head and cylinder block.
