            0

Contents: Replacement ↧ Installation ↧

Replacement

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Set the gear shift lever to the "park" position and the ignition switch to the "run" position.

3. Remove the steering column cover located under the instrument panel.

4. Insert the end of a screwdriver into the slot located in the ignition switch lock, press the cable latch and separate the cable.

5. Press the cable connection lock button (located at the bottom of the steering column), moving it to the upper position, and disconnect the cable from the parking lever stud. Press the two cable connection latches and disconnect the cable from the base of the gear shift lever.

6. Remove the cable clamps.

Installation

7. Make sure the cable connector lock is in the up position and the gear shift lever is in the park position. Snap the cable connector into the base of the gear shift lever.

8. With the ignition key in the "Run" position, snap the cable into the lock housing.

9. Turn the ignition key to the "Lock" position.

10. Clip the end of the cable onto the parking/lock pin.

11. Push the end of the cable forward, eliminating the slack in the cable.

12. Without tensioning the cable, snap the button on its lock.

13. Check the parking/lock cable as follows.
  • a) With the gearshift lever in the "Park" position and the ignition key in the "Lock" position, make sure that the gearshift lever cannot be moved to another position and that the key can be removed.
  • b) With the gear shift lever in the "Neutral" position and the ignition key in the "Run" position, make sure that the key cannot be turned to the "Lock" position.

14. If the parts operate as described above, the parking/lock system is adjusted correctly. Proceed to step 16.

15. If the system does not operate as described above, return the cable connector stopper to the upper position and repeat the adjustment procedure again. Push the cable connector down and recheck its functionality.

16. If the ignition key cannot be removed in the "park" position, latch the lock button in the upper position and move the end of the cable rearward so that the key can be removed from the ignition switch.

17. Install the wire into the mounting brackets.
