1. Open the hood (see "Hood").

2. Loosen the clamp securing the end of the transmission control cable by squeezing its bent tabs...
NOTE: For clarity, shown with the battery and battery mounting shelf removed.

3. ...and remove the cable end from the slot in the bracket on the gearbox.

4. Disconnect the tip from the ball joint of the multifunction switch lever, overcoming the resistance of its retainer.

5. In the vehicle interior, remove the upper decorative trim panel of the floor tunnel (see "Removal and installation the floor tunnel lining").

6. Using pliers with thin, curved jaws, pry up the end of the gearbox control cable...

7. ...and remove the tip from the selector lever pin, overcoming the resistance of the retainer.

8. Squeeze the tabs of the cable sheath end fastening clamp...

9. ...and remove the tip from the slot on the gear shift body.

10. Remove the left front floor tunnel trim panel (see "Removal and installation the floor tunnel lining").

11. Under the instrument panel, remove the cable seal from the hole in the front shield and remove the cable into the passenger compartment.
12. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
13. Adjust the gearbox control drive (see "Adjusting the automatic transmission control drive").
