1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the upper decorative trim panel of the floor tunnel (see "Removal and installation the floor tunnel lining").

3. Press the locking device of the transmission selector control harness connector...

4. ...and disconnect the connector from the selector linkage.

5. Using pliers with thin, curved jaws, pry up the end of the gearbox control cable...

6. ...and remove the tip from the selector lever pin, overcoming the resistance of the retainer.

7. Squeeze the tabs of the cable sheath end fastening clamp...

8. ...and remove the tip from the slot on the gear shift body.

9. Remove the four bolts securing the selector linkage to the body base.

NOTE: This is how the bolts that secure the selector linkage to the body base are located.

USEFUL TIP: The bolts securing the selector linkage are difficult to access. We recommend removing them after unscrewing them with a magnet on a telescopic rod.

10. Remove the wire harness from the bracket slot onto the linkage slot.

11. Prying off the wire harness holder...

12. ... remove the holder from the hole in the gear shift housing...

13. ...and remove the slide.
NOTE: The automatic transmission selector linkage parts are not supplied separately as spare parts, therefore, if the selector fails, replace its linkage as an assembly.

14. Install the gear selector linkage and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
15. Adjust the gearbox control drive (see "Adjusting the automatic transmission control drive").
