Expansion tank (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



Caution! To prevent injury, do not remove the expansion tank cap when the engine and radiator are hot, as heat maintains pressure in the system. Hot fluid and steam may escape under high pressure.


1. Drain the engine coolant to the level of the expansion tank.

2. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir. See section 6A, Power Steering System.

3. Disconnect the return hose clamp and disconnect the return hose from the top of the expansion tank.

4. Disconnect the thermostat bypass hose clamp and disconnect the thermostat bypass hose from the top of the expansion tank.

5. Disconnect the feed hose clamp and disconnect the feed hose from the bottom of the expansion tank.

6. Remove the connecting screw and nut of the expansion tank.



7. Remove the expansion tank.

8. Wash the expansion tank inside and out and the expansion tank cap with soap and water.

9. Thoroughly flush the expansion tank and plug.

Installation procedure



1. Install the expansion tank.

2. Secure the expansion tank with a connecting screw and nut.

Tighten

Tighten the expansion tank locking screws and nuts to 8 Nm (71 lbs.in).

3. Connect the return hose and thermostat bypass hose to the top of the expansion tank.

4. Attach the supply hose to the bottom of the expansion tank.

5. Fill the expansion tank with coolant up to the central mark or up to the MAX mark.
