Removal procedure



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the lower engine shield.

3. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield with bolts.

3. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield with bolts.


4. Loosen the fastening nuts securing the upper flange of the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.

Important: The nuts and stud may come loose completely due to high exhaust manifold temperatures, but they can be replaced.

5. Unscrew the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe.

6. Remove the bolt and nut from the exhaust pipe mounting bracket.

7. Remove the catalytic converter and gasket.

8. Clean the sealing surfaces on the muffler inlet pipe and exhaust manifold.



9. Check the exhaust pipe and exhaust manifold for holes, damage, loose seams, and other defects that could allow exhaust fumes to enter the passenger compartment.

Installation procedure



1. Install the gasket and tighten the nuts securing the upper flange of the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.

Tighten

Tighten the catalytic converter upper flange nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb-ft).

Tighten the catalytic converter upper flange nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb-ft).


2. Install the catalytic converter and gasket onto the exhaust pipe flange.

Tighten

Tighten the catalytic converter to exhaust pipe mounting nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb-ft).

Tighten the exhaust pipe mounting bracket bolt and nut to 40 N·m (30 lb-ft).

Tighten the exhaust pipe mounting bracket bolt and nut to 40 N·m (30 lb-ft).


3. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.



Tighten

Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield screws to 15 N·m (11 lb-ft).

4. Install the lower engine shield.

5. Connect the negative battery cable.
