Removal and installation the generator (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the engine trim cover. See section 1C2, Engine Mechanical - HFV6 3.2L.

3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. See Section 1C2, Engine Mechanical - HFV6 3.2L.

4. Turn the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise to decrease belt tension.

5. While holding the tensioner in the loose position, disconnect the belt.

6. Remove the cooling fan assembly. See section 1D3, Engine Cooling System - HFV6 3.2L.

7. Unscrew the nut securing the supply wire (1) from the battery to the generator.



8. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (2) from the generator.

9. Remove the upper mounting bolts (3) of the generator.

10. Loosen the through bolt securing the auxiliary drive belt idler pulley to the alternator.

11. Support the generator and remove the through bolt.

12. Remove the generator.

Installation procedure



1. Place the alternator in its original position and hand tighten the through bolt securing the auxiliary drive belt pulley to the alternator.

Note: Do not tighten the auxiliary drive belt idler pulley-to-alternator through bolt at this time.

2. Tighten the upper generator mounting bolts (3).



Tighten

Tighten the upper generator mounting bolts to 58 N·m (43 ft·lbs).

Tighten the through bolt securing the auxiliary drive belt guide pulley to the alternator to 50 N·m (37 ft·lbs).

3. Install the nut (1) securing the supply wire from the generator to the battery onto the generator.

Tighten

Tighten the nut securing the generator lead to the battery to 15 N·m (11 ft·lbs).

4. Connect the wiring harness connector (2) to the generator.

5. Turn the auxiliary drive belt tensioner clockwise.

6. While holding the tensioner in the loose position, install the belt.

7. Install the cooling fan assembly. See section 1D3, Engine Cooling System - HFV6 3.2L.

8. Install the air cleaner assembly. See section 1C2, Engine Mechanical - HFV6 3.2L.



9. Install the engine trim cover. See section 1C2, Engine Mechanical - HFV6 3.2L.

10. Connect the negative battery cable.
